Laura and Hannah of Willow Wise will lead the workshops and ‘make and take’ activities:
Children aged 7+ will construct a small traditional willow cray fish trap. The Willow Wise team will have information and pictures of American signal crayfish and the effect they have on native species .
Younger children can make a willow pike or damselfly /damselfly nymph. Laura and Hannah will have pictures and names of native species specific to Hampshire chalk streams ,such as the ruddy darter so that children learn about the special River Test setting.
Community weaving
As well as the ‘ make and take ‘ activity, the Willow Wise team will be coordinating the creation of a willow hurdle, such as is made to shore up eroding River Test riverbanks .
